General Information
This one-day course aims to
develop the skills of participants in safe lone working practices. It is
designed to help staff to identify and implement safe practices as a
lone worker as well as covering some practical ways of obtaining
support. The course is primarily for people working in either a
community or residential setting but may also benefit others working in
similar environments.
A range of training methods will be used in delivering the course content.
This will assist in ensuring effective input of course material.
Participants will be encouraged to take an active part in each session.
Aims & Objectives Of The Course
The aim of the course is to
look at the way participants are likely to be involved in supporting
people who are coping with bereavement and to address the issues this
raises. Participants will develop their skills, attitudes and knowledge
in the areas of:
¨ Their own views, concerns and expectations in relation to lone working
¨ Understanding the meaning of ‘lone working’¨ Addressing and coping with
their own needs and feelings¨ Adopting safe working practices that reduce
risk to lone workers
¨ Effective ways of obtaining support
¨ Explore what procedures exist within the organisation with regard to
lone working practices
Objectives
By the end of the course participants should be able to:
¨ Define what is meant by the term ‘lone worker’¨ Identify support
services available to lone workers and how to utilise them effectively¨
Avoid taking unnecessary risks by forward planning and/or effective risk
assessment
¨ Recognise
the signs of build up to conflict and aggression
¨ Define
effective ways of how to defuse such conflict and/or aggression
¨ Adhere to the organisations policies and procedures in relation to lone
working
Summary
The course is designed to be flexible and the content and setting can be
varied to meet the particular requirements of individual groups.
Participants will be encouraged to adopt a supportive and positive approach
to the group as a whole. It is hoped that this will allow individuals to
achieve greater proficiency and confidence through taking part in a
stimulating and enjoyable learning programme.
