Information
This is a one-day course designed to
help those staff who are responsible for assessing the support needs of
service users living in sheltered housing and evaluating the risks
attached to the non-provision and provision of this service.
The course can be equally beneficial to housing officers involved
in working with sheltered housing services as well as wardens and scheme
managers. The course will look
at effective methods to ensure assessments are unbiased and structured
covering any specific requirements of the participants organisation.
A range of training methods will be used in delivering the course
content. This will assist in ensuring effective input of course material.
Participants will be encouraged to take an active part in each session.

Objectives Of The Course
The aim of the course is to look at
the reasons and benefits of a sound assessment criteria and develop a
system which meets the requirements of the participants organisation.
Participants will develop their skills, attitudes and knowledge in
the areas of:

Preparing for a constructive
assessment.

Listening and communicating.
¨
Assessing the needs and risk
¨
Clarifying that the applicant has a
full understanding of the assessment
¨ Writing up an assessment report.
Objectives
By the end of the course participants
should be able to:
¨ Identify effective ways to communicate
with others.
¨ Recognise the needs and requirements
of individuals.
¨ Highlight any risks of not meeting
needs that have been identified.
¨ List any associated risks that may be
linked to the provision of service.
¨ Describe ways to maximise the benefits
of an assessment.
¨ Demonstrate methods to effectively
record information gathered.
