This
training will provide participants with essential knowledge of the skills
required to offer the best professional approach to support people with
dementia living in sheltered/supported housing. It
is applicable for those who are working in the sheltered/supported housing
to develop their skills and understanding of their role in the provision
of support and how to access support from other agencies. The course is
also equally valuable for housing officers who wish to develop their
understanding of dementia awareness, care support staff who work within a
sheltered/supported housing environment and volunteers who support people
with dementia.
A range of training methods will be used in delivering the course
content. This will assist in ensuring effective input of course material.
Participants will be encouraged to take an active part in each session.
Aims & Objectives Of The Course
The aim of
the course is to look at the effects of mental health problems in old age
and the way participants can address and cope with the issues of managing
these situations.Participants
will develop their skills, attitudes and knowledge in the areas of:
Increasing a greater understanding of
the differing types of Dementia
Awareness of different kinds of support available to people
with dementia
Their role in the provision of service
to people with dementia
Encouraging a multi-disciplinary and
co-ordinated approach to working with dementia
