The Role of Sheltered/Supported Housing

[Up]

Who is the Event for?

This event is designed to develop the skills and knowledge of staff who work in sheltered or supported housing and allied professions such as control centre staff, community support services, etc.

It is designed to enable delegates to gain a greater insight into the purpose and function of sheltered/supported housing and to develop a broader knowledge as to the history, development and changing role of sheltered/supported housing.  Delegates will have the opportunity to evaluate how specialist housing differs from general housing provision and debate whether such specialist housing services succeed in promoting and enabling independence or create a separation within the community leading to a feeling of institutionalism.

It also provides delegates with the opportunity to learn more about the origins and growth of social housing as we know it today and consider the links this may have in laying the foundations for the birth of specialist housing services such as sheltered and supported housing.

A range of training methods will be used in delivering the event content. This will assist in ensuring effective input of event material. Participants will be encouraged to take an active part in each session.
