Tenant Participation and Consultation in Sheltered Housing

General Information
This course is for Staff working and delivering services to tenants/lessees living in sheltered and / or supported housing and who, through their role provide advice and support to service users as well as liaise with other agencies to obtain additional support or advice on housing options. It is also for Service Managers who are keen to develop a resident involvement strategy at scheme level and to explore good practice and find innovative ways of involving and consulting service users.

The course will focus on:

Supporting Service Managers to develop resident involvement strategies at scheme and / or project level

Developing opportunities for residents to participate more widely, building on existing participation levels.

 

Overall aim of the course:

  • To enable staff to have a clear understanding of resident involvement in sheltered and supported housing and to develop skills and knowledge for successful resident involvement

  • To assist staff in developing a pro-active approach that is ‘person centred’ when supporting resident participation and developing a local strategy

Course Objectives:

  • Understand the context of and regulators requirements for resident involvement and list the benefits to residents

  • Define different levels of involvement

  • Assess skills and training requirements necessary to support resident participation

  • Understand the key stages in developing a resident involvement strategy

  • Be aware of sources of good practice and other information sources and be able to apply it to the workplace

  • Understand the relationships between resident involvement, support planning and Best Value

Summary
The course is designed to be flexible and the content and setting can be varied to meet the particular requirements of individual groups. Participants will be encouraged to adopt a supportive and positive approach to the group as a whole. It is hoped that this will allow individuals to achieve greater proficiency and confidence through taking part in a stimulating and enjoyable learning programme.
