Information
This is a one-day training event designed to increase the knowledge
and understanding of telecare technology and its application. The
training will also provide an opportunity for participants to review the
impact that such technology has on the provision of services within
sheltered housing and allied services. It will provide participants with
the skills to offer the best professional approach to support people in
making best use of telecare and other technology.
A range of
training methods will be used in delivering the course content. This
will assist in ensuring effective input of course material. Participants
will be encouraged to take an active part in each session.
Aims &
Objectives
The aim of
this event is to look at the effects that telecare and other technology
may have on the provision of services within sheltered housing and the
way participants can utilise such technology to support service users to
manage day to day life challenges. Participants will develop their
skills, attitudes and knowledge in the areas of:

that telecare and other technology will have on sheltered housing
services

Understanding how the use of telecare and other technology can
assist service users to maintain independence and a quality
lifestyle

Acquiring
the necessary skills to use telecare as part of a comprehensive
support service to users

identifying appropriate telecare products and/or other technology
that will assist service users to manage risks and overcome
physical, sensory or cognitive difficulties
Objectives
By the end of
this event participants should be able to:

Gain an
understanding of the different types of telecare products and other
technology available

Review how
the use of telecare and other technology may impact on the delivery
of sheltered housing services

Identify
how such technology could assist service users to manage their
preferred lifestyles

Suggest
realistic approaches to supporting older people by the use of such
technology

Examine
the ethical issues and dilemmas with regard to the use of such
technology in the provision of support
Summary
The training
is designed to be flexible and the content and setting can be varied to
meet the particular requirements of individual groups.
Participants
will be encouraged to adopt a supportive and positive approach to the
group as a whole. It is hoped that this will allow individuals to
achieve greater proficiency and confidence through taking part in a
stimulating and enjoyable learning programme.
