The Sheltered Housing Group of the Sussex Gerontology Network was founded in 1991 by Peter Lloyd, Professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Sussex.

Since that date the group has been holding twice yearly workshops, bringing together residents, scheme and line managers to discuss issues of common concern.  Many such issues have been raised before they became matters of more public debate.  These workshops are apparently unique in bringing together residents and management; they have been welcomed by scheme managers who value meeting peers from organisations other than their own.

Currently, the workshops are held in the University of Sussex and are attracting an average of 100 participants from the South East of England and the London area.

A full report of the workshops is sent to participants; many of these have been well reported in the housing press.  These reports can be viewed on the SHN Web Site by clicking on the 'WORKSHOP REPORTS' link.  Alternately, copies can be sent to you either by e-mail or post.  For a list of the workshop report titles and details of how to obtain these CLICK HERE

The Sussex Gerontology Sheltered Housing Group is managed by a steering committee which includes residents, managers and others involved in sheltered housing.  For further information or enquiries about The Sussex Gerontology Sheltered Housing Group, please contact Professor Peter Lloyd, School of Social Sciences, University of Sussex, Brighton BN1 9SN Telephone: 01273 501252 Fax: 01273 673563
