Who Course is for:

Staff working and delivering service to tenants/lessees living in sheltered and/or supported housing and who, through their role:

·        Provide support to service users,

·        Liaise with other agencies with regard to obtaining appropriate support for service users

This course may also be beneficial for line managers with a responsibility for staff involved in support planning and needs assessment process. It will enhance understanding and learning about the practical issues staff may face and enable managers to provide a more positive role in supporting such staff.

Course Content

  • The requirements of Supporting People in relation to support plans
  • Effective content in support plan documentation
  • Confidentiality, Access to Information and Data Protection
  • Assessing needs and risks
  • Clarifying that the applicant has a full understanding of the assessment
  • Providing effective support that will enhance the users self esteem and independence

Overall aim of the course:

To enable staff to have a clear understanding of the support plan process.

To assist staff in developing a pro-active approach that is ‘person centred’ when setting up and reviewing support plans.

Course Objectives - What you should be able to do by the end of the course

  1. List the benefits of using structured support plans
  2. Define the meaning of the word ‘support’
  3. Identify what is useful information that could be included in support plan documentation
  4. Address some of the key issues around the management of support planning
  5. Demonstrate effective methods that can be used to establish the support needs of service users
  6. Recognise the needs and requirements of individuals.
  7. Highlight any risks of not meeting needs that have been identified.
  8. List any associated risks that may be linked to the provision of service.
