The Sheltered Housing Network draws the crowds at the 2002 C.I.H. Sheltered Housing Conference in NottinghamSHN exhibition stand and workshops are getting more and more popular! This years conference was held on Wednesday 7th & Thursday 8th August at Nottingham University The Chartered Institute of Housing decided to change the venue of their National Sheltered Housing Conference due to the high attendance. It was great to see the conference so well attended. The conference plenary sessions and workshops gave an excellent opportunity to gain a wider insight into what is happening in the world of sheltered housing. The Sheltered Housing Network played a significant part in creating such opportunities by running six workshops at the conference. The workshops that SHN ran were on a range of topics, including:
These were so popular that many were already 'sold out' when delegates tried to register on them! Some delegates came to the SHN stand to ask if SHN intended to run these workshops again. So as to accommodate the additional interest, SHN plan to run further sessions regionally. If you would like further details about any of these workshops, please contact us by phoning our central enquiries team on 08707 44 26 56 or e-mail us at info@shn.org.uk Ray Sawyer-James, founder of SHN ran two of the workshops and had this to say. "I was pleased with the overwhelming response by delegates, both visiting our exhibition stand and in attending our workshops. The Sheltered Housing Network was set up following requests from a number of people working in the sheltered housing sector who were looking for a service that could provide them with relevant information and support. The positive response to SHN at the conference demonstrated that the initial interest in our service is growing rapidly and our membership is certainly on the increase!" Approximately 350 people attended the conference and out of those around 275 came and spoke to staff at the SHN exhibition stand about a number of services and training events that SHN offer. There was particular interest shown in the SHN log book. Since then, many organisations have made further contact with SHN and some are now in the first stages of introducing the SHN log book into their organisation. Initial feedback has shown that a large number of enquirers see the SHN log book as a way of streamlining administrative tasks and also an effective method of monitoring service standards. SHN offer an independent auditing service, which many have commented on as invaluable in helping organisations to meet the requirements of 'Supporting People' Delegates were very keen to learn more about the proposals SHN have to run the National Housing Certificate at regional study centres across the UK. Many seemed impressed at the level of student support offered and the flexibility of course delivery. A number of sheltered housing providers have since commented on the fact that the course fees are less expensive than those being charged elsewhere and that this offers exceptional value. SHN have been invited to attend a number of employers forums and regional training consortiums meetings to discuss the benefits that the course can provide. For More Information Contact: |
