GENERAL
INFORMATION
This one-day course is designed
specifically for those who work in sheltered housing and are required to
assess potential risk when assessing the needs of service users.
The course is designed primarily for people who are based or work
in sheltered housing schemes and interact directly with service users.
Those who visit clients in the wider community and / or those who
conduct assessments of prospective service users may also find this course
beneficial.
A range of training methods will be
used in delivering the course content. This will assist in ensuring
effective input of course material. Participants will be encouraged to
take an active part in each session.
AIMS
& OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE
The aim of the course is
to develop an understanding of the purpose of
risk assessments in a sheltered housing environment and how this links to
the requirements of the ‘Supporting People’ Quality Assessment
Framework.
Participants will develop their
skills, attitudes and knowledge in the areas of:

The Outline framework for risk
assessments
[b]
Understanding their responsibilities in
respect of managing risk
[c]
Gaining greater clarity to assessing and recording risk when
assessing the needs of service users
.
[d]
Considering how to make the risk assessment work when working with
other agencies
[e]
Developing an action plan for effective implementation of a risk
assessment strategy

By the end of the course participants
should be able to:

relating to risk assessments

Recognise the difference between a hazard and a risk
[3]
Identify constructive ways of managing risk
[4]
Explore constructive ways to make the resident aware of potential /
actual risks
[5]
Identify the approach to assessing and recording risk in a
sheltered housing setting
[6]
Examine the issues involved in working with other agencies
[7]
Draw up an action plan for the effective implementation of a risk
assessment strategy
