Aims & Objectives Of The Course

By the end of the course participants should be able to:

  • Understand What is palliative care

  • Have an appreciation of why we need palliative care

  • Understand the role of Palliative care teamwork and the team

  • Understand the importance of caring for carers

  • Appreciate the value of good communication in palliative care

  • Break Bad News

  • Understand the need to talk about difficult issues

  • Understand why active listening skills are so important

  • Understand the role of palliative drugs and the service user /client / patient

  • Gain an appreciation of the use of morphine and other prescribed drugs in palliative care

  • Understand the analgesic /opiod ladder of pain control

  • Use a model pain assessment tool

  • Recognise the importance of care in a variety of situations /illness

  • Each delegate will receive a range of forms used /tools used in palliative care

Summary

The course is designed to be flexible and the content and setting can be varied to meet the particular requirements of individual groups.
 

Participants will be encouraged to adopt a supportive and positive approach to the group as a whole. It is hoped that this will allow individuals to achieve greater proficiency and confidence through taking part in a stimulating and enjoyable learning programme.
