MANAGING A DISPERSED WORKFORCE

General Information

This one day training event will focus on the management of a workforce where the workers are largely unseen and required to work in private homes providing support services to people living within sheltered housing.

Ageing populations coupled with greater longevity are increasing the need for home based support services to enable people to live independent lives and maintain better health status. This coupled with the implementation of ‘Supporting People’ strategy is increasing the demand for home based support services.

Aims & Objectives of The Course

Service Managers of sheltered housing are faced with the dilemmas of managing high volumes of clients and staff in the most efficient way possible.

Key issues in management of a widely dispersed workforce include:

Supervision of staff

Quality control

Training

Performance monitoring

Customer services

Participants attending this training event will have the opportunity to explore and discuss ways in which these key issues can be addressed to ensure safe efficient provision of support services within sheltered housing.

Participants will develop their skills, attitudes and knowledge in the areas of:

The need for evaluating staff performance and taking appropriate response

Promoting a positive image towards one-to-one supervision sessions

Understanding the value of obtaining constructive feedback from users

Involving the staff team regarding development of a responsive service

Benefits of using structured management toolkits to evidence service delivery

Objectives

By the end of the course participants should be able to:

Identify reasons for implementing clear staff performance monitoring

Recognise the need for clarity to staff of their roles

Identify ways to establish that staff understand the organisations service standards

Explain how they can enable staff to provide evidence of their performance

Describe ways to maximise pro-active input and involvement of the staff team

Demonstrate methods to promote an effective and appropriate training programme

Create an action plan for working to achieve an effective strategy to implement the working practices that have been identified

Summary

The course is designed to be flexible and the content and setting can be varied to meet the particular requirements of individual groups. Participants will be encouraged to adopt a supportive and positive approach to the group as a whole. It is hoped that this will allow individuals to achieve greater proficiency and confidence through taking part in a stimulating and enjoyable learning programme.
