Implementing the Refreshed QAF - C1.2 Security, Health& Safety

General Information

This training is designed to provide support staff with sufficient understanding of the issues and processes so that they are equipped to deliver their services with the security, health & safety of themselves and their service users in mind and how to evidence good practice.

 

Suitable for

All staff who are involved in the delivery of support services and who have a responsibility for security, health &

safety, both front line staff & managers

 

Training Content includes

  •   The requirements of C1.2 of the Refresh QAF

  •   Health & safety legislation

  •   A dynamic pro-active approach to H&S

  •   Risk assessments & inspections of the environment, premises, communal areas, offices & accommodation,

  •   How often H&S checks should be carried out and how to evidence them

  •   Staffing & organisational issues

  •   Lone working

  •   Principles of good practice in ensuring safety

  •   Accountability

  •   Drugs & alcohol

  •   Verbal & non verbal communication

  •   Assertiveness

Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will have:-

  •   Understood how to meet the requirements of C1.2 of the Refresh QAF & reflected upon the impact of these upon their organisation

  •   Understood what is meant by a dynamic pro-active approach in H&S

  •   Clarified how to carry out health & safety inspections and risk assessments & their frequency

  •   Learnt how to carry out lone working risk assessments & to minimise the risks of lone working

  •   Explored how to ensure safety via accountability good practices

  •   Reflected on how to deal with aggressive / violent situations

  •   Explored the effects of drugs and alcohol upon behaviour

  •   Realised the impact of verbal & non verbal communication

  •   Realised the difference between aggressive, assertive & passive styles of communication

Summary

The course is designed to be flexible and the content and setting can be varied to meet the particular requirements of individual groups.

Participants will be encouraged to adopt a supportive and positive approach to the group as a whole. It is hoped that this will allow individuals to achieve greater proficiency and confidence through taking part in a stimulating and enjoyable learning programme.
