Introduction
The ASET Level 2 Certificate in Dementia Care is a
vocationally related qualification designed to provide the learner with
the essential knowledge of the skills required to offer the best
professional approach to caring for people who have dementia.
Learners will:
• Gain an understanding of the different types of dementia, early
symptoms
and current treatments available
• Develop an awareness of the different support agencies available
• Develop a clear vision about their role in caring for people with
dementia
Structure
This programme consists of 3 units.
Unit 01:Understanding dementia (30glh)
Unit 02:Understanding the practical help
available for people with dementia (30glh)
Unit 03:Caring for people with dementia
(60glh)
Assessment
1.External
Unit 1 is
assessed externally, via an assignment which is set, marked and
moderated by the Accreditation Body. It is to be completed in an agreed
three week period. All assessment criteria are to be met.
2.Internal
Unit 2 is
assessed internally using centre set short answer questions, internally
marked and externally moderated by ASET.
Unit 3 is
assessed internally via a centre-set assignment, internally marked by
SHN and externally moderated by the accreditation body. |
Who is it for?
This programme is designed for individuals who either
are currently working, or plan to work, as employees or volunteers in
care environments such as hospitals, residential and respite care homes,
day care centres and in the service user ’s own homes. It is applicable
for those who are already working in the care sector to develop their
skills in the workplace or for career progression. Equally, for newly
appointed employees, those returning to work in the care sector after a
career break and volunteers who care for people with dementia.
Progression
The Level 2 Certificate in Dementia Care is well
suited, as additionality, to the full range of national vocational
qualifications in Health and Social Care or to other work-based
qualifications.
