APPRAISING STAFF - A PRO-ACTIVE APPROACH

General Information

This is a one-day course designed to help those staff who are responsible for managing others and conducting staff appraisals.  The course can be equally beneficial to managers, supervisors and any staff who are required to carry out staff appraisals as part of their work.  The course will look at effective methods to ensure appraisals are unbiased and structured covering any specific requirements of the participants organisation.  A range of training methods will be used in delivering the course content. This will assist in ensuring effective input of course material. Participants will be encouraged to take an active part in each session.

Aims & Objectives Of The Course

The aim of the course is to look at the reasons and benefits of a sound assessment criteria and develop a system which meets the requirements of the participants organisation.  Participants will develop their skills, attitudes and knowledge in the areas of:

v     Monitoring performance of employees

v     Managing the performance of their staff team

v     The mangers role in identifying the training and development needs of their staff is reinforced

v     An open and supportive style of management

v     All staff being an intrinsic part of the business planning cycle

v     Following staff appraisal policies and procedures

Objectives

By the end of the course participants should be able to:

¨      Monitor and manage staff performance

¨      Identify areas for development of individual staff

¨      Recognise and reinforce the training and development needs of individuals within the staff team

¨      Describe ways to maximise the benefits of an appraisal.

¨      Demonstrate methods to actively value and support individual staff.

¨      Adhere to their organisations policies and procedures in relation to staff appraisals

Summary

The course is designed to be flexible and the content and setting can be varied to meet the particular requirements of individual groups.

Participants will be encouraged to adopt a supportive and positive approach to the group as a whole. It is hoped that this will allow individuals to achieve greater proficiency and confidence through taking part in a stimulating and enjoyable learning programme.
