Who the Training will Benefit:

Staff working and delivering service to tenants/lessees living in sheltered and/or supported housing and who, through their role:

bullet Provide support to service users,
bullet Liaise with other agencies with regard to obtaining appropriate support for service users

This course may also be beneficial for line managers with a responsibility for staff involved in support planning and needs assessment process. It will enhance understanding and learning about the practical issues staff may face and enable managers to provide a more positive role in supporting such staff.

bullet Providing effective support that will enhance the users self esteem and independence

Overall aim of the course:

bullet To enable participants to understand the context of the support plan process.
bullet To assist participants in developing a pro-active approach that is ‘person centred’ when setting up and reviewing support plans.
bullet To help participants to recognise how needs & risk assessment link together with support planning to make one complete package

 Objectives - What you should be able to do by the end of the training

  1. Define the meaning of the word ‘support’
  2. Explain the difference between support in general and housing related support.
  3. Provide Support that enhances self esteem and independence
  4. Identify and monitor Outcomes within the Support Planning process.
  5. Address some of the key issues around the management of support planning
  6. Highlight any risks of not meeting needs that have been identified.
  7. List any associated risks that may be linked to the provision of service.
  8. Produce an action plan on how to put what you have learnt into practice

Summary

The training is designed to be flexible and the content and setting can be varied to meet the particular requirements of individual groups.

Participants will be encouraged to adopt a supportive and positive approach to the group as a whole. It is hoped that this will allow individuals to achieve greater proficiency and confidence through taking part in a stimulating and enjoyable learning programme.
